MAMADOU - 10 Years Old and Still Going Strong! -

May 5, 2008 - Salem, Massachusetts - Spread the word !!!

mHello to all our friends and fans!

We are proud to announce that the MAMADOU band is officially 10 years old today!!  Our first show was a Cinco de Mayo party in 1998, back when we were called Mamadou Diop and the Jolole Band.

The original band consisted of Mamadou Diop on lead vocals/rhythm guitar, Pavel Jirka on lead guitar, Rick Ashley and Alan Hezekiah on African percussion, John Pfister on bass, and Ted Sillars on drum kit.  Soon afterwards, Master Drummer Ibrahima Camara joined in as the fulltime percussionist.  Two years later, keyboardist Adam Zampino joined this crazy group.

Since then, we have traveled all over with our music, averaging well over 50 performances per year, moving people at festivals, parties, schools, nightclubs, and more!  My, how we have grown...

We are always writing new music, sharing it with you at our shows, and we love what we do.  The summer is on its way, and we are looking forward to a Great 2008!

Check our calendar for upcoming shows in your area.  We hope to see you there!

Peace, Love, and Hope

"Mamadou Diop’s musical career has followed an astonishing trajectory: Born in rural Senegal and raised in Dakar, Diop toured through Europe and Africa before ending up on, of all places, Massachusetts’s North Shore. Not that anyone’s complaining. Diop and his band, Mamadou, play thick, drum-heavy funk that mashes Senegalese rhythms with reggae, salsa, and soul. Never had the pleasure of joining a samba line hours before the new year? When Mamadou takes the stage at the Hynes Convention Center, you’ll have your chance. Performance from 9:30 to 11 p.m. at the Hynes Convention Center, 900 Boylston St., Boston."
