Not that anyone’s complaining. Diop and his band, Mamadou, play thick, drum-heavy funk that mashes Senegalese rhythms with reggae, salsa, and soul. Never had the pleasure of joining a samba line hours before the new year? When Mamadou takes the stage at the Hynes Convention Center, you’ll have your chance. Performance from 9:30 to 11 p.m. at the Hynes Convention Center, 900 Boylston St., Boston."

MAMADOU - 10 Years Old and Still Going Strong! -

May 5, 2008 - Salem, Massachusetts - Spread the word !!!

mHello to all our friends and fans!

We are proud to announce that the MAMADOU band is officially 10 years old today!!  Our first show was a Cinco de Mayo party in 1998, back when we were called Mamadou Diop and the Jolole Band.

The original band consisted of Mamadou Diop on lead vocals/rhythm guitar, Pavel Jirka on lead guitar, Rick Ashley and Alan Hezekiah on African percussion, John Pfister on bass, and Ted Sillars on drum kit.  Soon afterwards, Master Drummer Ibrahima Camara joined in as the fulltime percussionist.  Two years later, keyboardist Adam Zampino joined this crazy group.

Since then, we have traveled all over with our music, averaging well over 50 performances per year, moving people at festivals, parties, schools, nightclubs, and more!  My, how we have grown...

We are always writing new music, sharing it with you at our shows, and we love what we do.  The summer is on its way, and we are looking forward to a Great 2008!

Check our calendar for upcoming shows in your area.  We hope to see you there!

Peace, Love, and Hope

"An experience not to be forgotten. There are no words for to explain how perfect the organization was and I think the Emergenza Village was a fu**ing good idea, unbelievable. No doubt we would pay for to be there again!!!! We also felt extremely welcome by all Emergenza staff. I am writing to you just to thank you for all your hard work in making sure we understood all the things that we must improve (like the band’s image or how to find the way to promotion our music). Every one from Sixteenth Solid Spread appreciates the things you said and we are working on it. The conversation we had on the Emergenza Village was very important to us, it not only help us grow our motivation but our self-esteem as a band. Thank you so much for helping and make us believe that all this hard work we’re committing ourselves to do will someday show off. After Taubertal, things are changing for better in the life of the band and we have to benefit from this moment. "

"iI am writing to you to express my sincerest feelings of grattitude to all of you!!! what we have experienced thanks to Emergenza is outrageous! two sold out concerts in one of basel's most important clubs, the Sommercasino, playing in front of 1000 people on Switzerlands second best known stage, the zürcher Volkshaus, where every swiss musician would like to play once in his lifetime and of course four sensational, unforgettable days at the Taubertal festival!! thank you very much for all of that!!! i'll keep all those experiences in mind until the age of 80, when i'll be sitting in a rocking chair, telling all those fabulous stories to my grand childs... The organisation was at all times perfect. never have we experienced such well organised concerts like the Emergenza concerts. and Taubertal was the top of it! we had a great time there, with very friendly emergenza staff who alsways treated us with respect and kindness. At last i wish to express a very special thank you to the responsible man for our area, and his charming assistant. Both of them had the perfect balance of professional behaviour on one hand, and a heart warming tone of caring friends on the other. They made us feel we were never alone in Taubertal and that they really cared for our wellbeing. They do their job with an amount of passion and joy like i have seldom seen in the whole music industry! take care of them, They're a big bargain for Emergenza!! thank you and all the best wishes for the emergenza organisation! "I want to send you a formal greeting once again on behalf of Broken Stigma. Our name's are, Pat Tweed (bass and keyboards), Ryan Thompson (guitar), Gary Keefer (drums). I want to thank you, and Emergenza, for such a wonderful time at the state theatre. That is currently our greatest venue, and what an honor it was to play where Hendrix once played. I believe that Emergenza has nothing but great things in completly pure intensions of great success for future ground breaking bands. In short playing another gig for you all and the audiance we bring will be a total YES!. "Broken Stimga" is ready to take on any challenge, and certainly any venue. Me and the rest of the band love to play music. and we love to inspire those who seek it. with that said, to create another adventure of seeling those little tickets and meeting new people, It all sounds totaly worth it. "Our band placed 2nd in the Emergenza Finals held in Atlanta GA this past June, and we are certainly interested in continuing our relationship with you! We were highly impressed with the organization of the shows and the venues associated with the festival. So many "battle of the bands" seem to just be throw together without paying attention to the details or keeping the best interests of the bands in mind. As a result of our second place finish, we were informed that Xzamen would be eligible to possibly play some showcase dates in the future. What would be involved in moving forward with this opportunity? Thanks again for putting together a great competition and giving smaller bands in the U.S. a chance to play these great, professional venues!"

"Guys, we of Drenched just wanted to say, THANKS FOR A TERRIFIC EXPERIENCE. It was a supreme pleasure to work with Emergenza. We appreciate the professionalism with which every level has been handled, and the patience and personality that we have encountered with every member of your staff. It's unfortunate that we didn't make it to the next level of the competition and we wish the best of luck to everyone who is participating in Atlanta. Maybe next year we'll be there!"

You have the best job in the world and it was a pleasure to meet you. We will see you next year no doubt. If we can ever be of assistance to you in the future, you have friends in BKC. Thanks again and take care"

"We don't believe there are enough words to show how much we appreciate all the support you have given us in the past few months. We want to thank you for the initial article on Channel 47, the article on Mapex's website and now (of course) we want to thank you for inputing into this latest article. We cannot describe how important and exciting this is to us, specially a day before our performance in Philadeplhia. It not only help us grow our motivation but our self esteem as a band. Thank you so much for helping, supporting, and making us believe that all this hard work we're commiting ourselves to do is finally paying off. From the bottom of our hearts."

"Just want to take this time to say thanks for the write up you gave us at the Finals in Pittsburgh. Everyone from Lifted appreciates the things you said and we're grateful for the opportunity this presented. Everyone at Emergenza did an excellent job and you provided what every band looks for in Pittsburgh....an opportunity. So with that, we'll see you next year in Germany"
Zach Steiner - LIFTED

"Dear Emergenza family, I'd like to thank all of you one more time for everything you've done this year. You are now an integral part of our lives. In the span of a year we went from playing our very first tour and printing CDs on our home computer to winning Emergenza in Boston and traveling to Germany, releasing our first album, shooting our first music video, selling out venues and doubling our fan base. However, the most important part was getting a taste of the big stage, confirming our commitment to the band reagardless of problems and set backs and disovering a family of similar minded musicians all over the world. What you do is incredible. Thank you! I wish all of you happy holidays and a very successful new year. Hope to see you all in Boston or elsewhere in the world."

"Thanks to you guys, we'll be on tour from sept 18-oct 3. We're playing throughout the midwest (including 2 shows with the Ghettobillies) and a gig in Toronto with Running Against Radar! > The Emergenza connections have really being paying off!"
Troy Kidwell - fluttr

"I’m thrilled to say that thanks to Emergenza and its contacts, the Ghettobillies will be making a run to the east coast this month. We will be playing in Boston Friday August 27th with another fantastic Emergenza band: Fluttr (our new friends)……it makes me nervous like a 12 year old boy at a catholic school dance….very sexy!"
Matthew Longobons - ghettobillies

"“When Emergenza said "Emergenza's role is to provide the means for bands to play in quality venues.", you guy's weren't kidding!!! It is unheard of for a new band such as ourselves to be performing at The Paradise. Our band has only been together for 6 months!! Since our performance, our website traffic increased by nearly 200%. We have a show coming up”."

"“We strongly feel that Emergenza has helped not only the local music scene here in Chicago, but all local bands around the world achieve their music goals.”"

"Hey Guys, my name is Zack and I played in the Boston band “Say When” at the Avalon. I just wanted to thank all of you guys and Emergenza for helping us build such a great resume which has placed us with so many recent opportunities. We just got booked at major venues in Boston and got placed on a major radio station WAAF 107.3FM and have been asked to play live on air as well. Also we have many more fans now due to the Emergenza competition not to mention tons of experience. Also thanx to Emergenza we are receiving more press in the area and are getting booked by major colleges. "

"Since GEN triumphed at the Emergenza UK final at the London Astoria things have become increasingly amazing in the life of the band. The excitement of playing in the European Final at the Taubertal Festival last summer is a lasting memory. The sunshine, sonic-bombardment and plentiful supply of refreshing beverages made this the high-point in the band’s career. But little did we know quite where it would take GEN next. John Tearle (drummer) was offered an endorsement by Jalapeno Drums, which he accepted. Rich Styles and I were approached about an endorsement by Engl and Carlsbro. Once landed, the phone rang. ‘Jon, are you sitting down?’ said Dave Williams (half of the Meltdown Management team). ‘Yep. It’s 10.30 at night. ‘Good. How would you guys like to fly to America to record your debut album with Tim Bushong?’ he said. ‘...Eh?’ came my reply, eventually. The shock, excitement, confusion, delirium etc. etc. hit me and I think I was probably the happiest man on the planet. The album is now completed and the artwork is being finished. ‘Rite of Refusal’, GEN’s debut album, will be released in May"

" Just a note to say a big thank you for everything you have done for us since Round 1 back in January. It was unfortunate for us that our progress in the competition ended before the Astoria final, but the experience and new fans that we have gained through working with you guys has been extremely valuable, and will hopefully help us to progress to the next stage, and get us the recording contract that we are looking for. It would be great if you would continue to bear us in mind if you are looking for bands to play at any other events that you may be organising. For example, you mentioned the BBC Project later this year... Thanks again for your support, and hopefully hear from you soon. "

"Just a quick email to say hi and thanks to everyone we had the pleasure of meeting and playing with last weekend. It was truly an amazing experience to meet so many great people from around the world and we had the time of our lives. Thank you to the Emergenza staff that made the weekend possible and run as smoothly as is humanly possible with 20 bands to take care of!! You guys done a great job and the contacts and experience we have gained from Emergenza has been more than we could have hoped for. We hope to see you all in the future and wish everyone the very best of luck! Please keep in touch and let us know how our new friends are doing."

"Hi There!! First of all, we wanna thank you for a brilliant contest. Its really a god opportunity for bands with no contract to show themselves. We made it to the Swedish final and did well. We are thinking of being part of it next year to. So we wonder if you can give us information when the next competision is in Stockholm. Once again... Thanks"

"I just wanted to say that the whole band would like to thank you for a well organized and really fun gig!! Too bad we missed second place with only 2 votes, but we're had really really fun on stage and hope we delivered some good music! I hope the final goes well and that you get the best band to go to Germany! "

Daniele De Santis - Lost Property Office

Noi Lambisco abbiamo solo tre concerti all'attivo...quelli fatti e vissuti GRAZIE AD emergenza!!!

"hier is Ramon!!!

" I wanted to write you guys to thank you so much for the CD. It really sounds great and will be a great promo tool for BTT as well as for the Emergenza Festival. We are so pleased to have received it and appreciate you taking the time to consider us. Once again, we really enjoyed our experience with the festival and are looking to next year's rounds. Thank you for bringing new life to indie bands in Montreal. You've done a great thing. Unfortunately, I, myself was not able to be there at the finals, as I had a gig that night. However, my band did go and said that it was packed. So in closing, thank you once again for the CD and hopefully we will stay in touch. We'd love to promote ourselves in Europe at one point and look forward to possibly working with you. "

APPLAUDISSEMENTS !!"

"What a beautiful time we had this weekend. Thank you so much for the honor of best singer, I'll treasure it always. We had an absolute blast, maybe too much of a blast. Ah! what's too much? We're all still alive and kicking and made alot of new friends. I just wanted to say that I was really impressed by everyone's performances and that I greatly appreciated the organization and hospitality on the part of the staff. Cheers to all of you. Thanks for the great memories."

"Hi everybody!!! It's Tony, the drummer from Running Against Radar. Just a quick response to Andy's e-mail to everyone. To Andy, thanks for taking the initiative to thank everybody, the bands and Emergenza staff alike. It was so nice to hear from one of our fellow Rothenburg bands after we all had such a wonderful experience. I'm sure that we all wish we were still over there playing our music to a great enthusiastic German crowd. Myself, as well as the other members from RAR - Dave, Greg and Simon - feel so lucky to have met so many wonderful musicians and bands over the span of the trip. We should all be proud of our achievements, and know that the future holds many more of these occasions. I think we all remember the mud covering the whole festivals grounds, and how many music listeners chose to slide and wrestle in it. Also, what a great stage to play on, looking out onto the audience, the valley, the hills and the amazing castles and old houses on top of them. And what tasty food! Those vouchers filled many hungry belly's. We all remember making the walk down the hostel stairs with a hangover, and feasting on the wonderful buffet breakfast that was waiting. Naturally, we all went for the coffee first because we were still half asleep! What an experience! Whenever RAR are travelling to a different country, we'll make sure to contact your band, and perhaps we can arrange some shows or a mini tour, or just meet up and have a drink and talk about this great experience. Again, thank you to all the bands and the Emergenza staff for giving us this wonderful musical opportunity…"
